Matt at Matt’s Cigar Journal has a review up of the Camacho Select Torpedo. One thing that he mentioned got my attention right away.

“A fantastic, flavorful Cameroon that is as good or better than any other Cameroon I have smoked.”

Check out the rest of his review at his blog.

I am very fond of Cameroons, so this is a cigar that I plan to pick up and sample in the near future. Matt had a chance to sample some of the pre-production versions of this particular cigar and says that the production version has been kicked up a notch.

The Select was introduced on May 4, ahead of the previously-announced June release. They came out early because Julio Eiroa felt that the cigars were just the way he wanted them.

“The Camacho Select is the cigar that was developed by my father Julio Eiroa, which we sent to a select group of retailers as a Christmas gift. He developed this cigar in total secrecy. The positive response that we received for this cigar was so overwhelming that we decided to add it to our line of cigars. The Camacho Select is full of flavor but with a medium body. It delivers a complexity of flavor that I personally have never tasted in any other Cameroon wrapped cigar.” according to Camacho Cigars President Christian Eiroa.

The Camacho Select is blended with Honduran-grown binder and filler. The cigars are packed in boxes of 24 in the following sizes: Lonsdale (44 x 6), Robusto (50 x 5), Super Robusto (52 x 5 3/4), Churchill (48 x 6 1/2), Torpedo (54 x 6 1/8 ). In addition to Matt’s glowing words about the Torpedo, I have heard very good things about the Lonsdale, and believe that I’ll give that size a try. Look for a review of it in the coming days.
