Cigar Envy Now In Nine Languages

Another modification Jennifer Tilly smoking a cigar to the site makes each article available in Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portugese, Arabic, Chinese, Korean and Japanese in addition to English.

It is machine-translation, done on demand, but you can bookmark pages in your language of choice and come back to them later.

In order to translate the site, just click on the appropriate flag in the far right column at the top (above the calendar and well past the picture of Jennifer Tilly smoking a cigar on this page, and Jennifer Aniston smoking on the next page - click More), and the page you are on will magically transform. Another upgrade is in the works that will make every page on the site appear in your chosen language from then on — that should be ready in a week or so.

Those of you who are bilingual, please send me some feedback at claro(at)cigarenvy.com on how good (or how bad) the translations are. I’m hoping that they will be of use to people whose first language is not English and not simply a source of perverse amusement.

Mousing over the small map will pop up a larger world map. There is nothing there but a blank at the moment since the script starts its tracking today. Check back if you have an interest in such things, as I do.

The reason for both of these changes as part of the site upgrades are that I was surprised at how many site visitors come from Europe, Asia and the Middle East when I looked over the server logs. If the trend of the past few months continues, and I expect it will, I think you will also be surprised if you check the map from time to time. It is cumulative, and will keep a running tally from now on of who comes from where based on IP addresses assigned to various countries.

That explains those two changes. What about the pictures of Jennifer Tilly and Jennifer Aniston? Not to mention the one of Jennifer Tilly and Gina Gershon enjoying a hot tub together while smoking cigars with a lucky friend?

Well, I really couldn’t come up with an attractive graphic to illustrate world languages. Three photos of beautiful women enjoying cigars seemed like they might be far more attractive to look at while you learned of the latest changes at Cigar Envy. Plus there is the old adage that “sex sells.”

And there is another reason as well, but that is another story for another day.

In addition to these fairly minor changes, there are a couple of major upgrades and changes to the site in the works. Those will take place over the next two weeks and then the cigar and cigar accessory reviews will get back to normal. I also have some very interesting interviews and feature stories lined up that I think you will find interesting and informative as we head into this year’s RTDA convention and show.
